I clicked on a demo download and am now playing the game's tutorial!!! It turns out like you can in fact left click on a certain tile and Tendry with pathmap to it. It is incredible! Makes me very glad that I have the whole weekend off from work.

More on the demo later.

Played through the demo today, and it did not impress me much, unfortunately. I don't think linear level design is a good idea with the more RPG-like engine in this game - you'll want a hub level that you can reach all the other levels from, both for practical reasons (it's easier to go to level 1 if you realize you missed something there) and for immersion - it makes the levels feel more like parts of a world. Maybe there is a hub level in the full game but I don't know. I definitely see a lot of potential in the engine though, so I'm going to try the editor and see if I can create something later.

problem with that is you have stats that would make choosing between 6 options would be hell, as they would all affect you differently.

I liked it, and found some of Tendry's lines hilarious! Though I did manage to carelessly get stuck and didn't realise for ages. I need to start saving the game more often. Or indeed, at all. :P

Isn't the game doing an autosave for you all of the time anyway?

Not enough times, imagine you being stuck at the last room of a level, while it only saves at the start.

I was mostly commenting on his "at all" bit - if he doesn't save, the game will...

Sure, but the autosave is a pain in the neck.

Considering I can end up at the last level and theoretically be screwed because I made the wrong choices /before/ the autosave...

Yes, it's autosaving fine. It's just that I reached the end of Rule 3, to find that I'd made it impossible to continue and would have to reload from the start of it.

I didn't think my use of 'at all' was really worthy of a discussion. Makes me feel special. :P

Aand demo solved(well, yeah, I believe I also found all secrets)! It was quite enjoyable and quite hard. First time I ended demo with about less than 100 HP
Click here to view the secret text
but then I played again(much better than the first time) and conquered the demo in an hour with more than 1600 HP left...

Oh, well, it was also funny.

So, of course I like clearly puzzle versions of DROD more, but puzzly RPG is certainly pretty good, too.

I just completed the demo without goblin-biter. In fact, I didn't enter the passage above the final room at all and instead kept the blue key. I wonder if it's possible to play through the demo without going to any of the secret rooms.

TFMurphy tried this and wasn't able to solve the demo without them. He needed 2, to be precise.

Also, they're 'hidden', not 'secret'.

No, the RPG has different standards for its hidden rooms. "Hidden" just means the rooms aren't marked on the level maps. There's no expectation that hidden rooms are completely optional like in DROD.

I was wondering what the fewest number of hidden rooms to visit is in the demo/full version in order to complete it.

Ah, so that is why they're so difficult to avoid. ;)

Even I love the game I didn't think that the demo is fitting the game. It really is more like a tutorial.

When I first heard about Rpg I thought, okay, and where are the neat puzzles?
After playing the demo I knew the good old Drod puzzles are gone. But as a real Drod fan I still bought it and it turns out that it's different to Drod but in no way easier. It's a different style of puzzeling. Planing ahead, avoiding things, managing the keys and making decisions which monster do I kill to not loose too much health. All these things weren't in the demo. You could just rush through the levels and hack everything to pieces.

The real game began in Rule6. From there on it was hard and unforgiving...in a pleasent way :D

I would say the real game begins after you reach the surface - everything before that is just an extended tutorial...

How many levels are in the demo? I just went on to the full version without playing the demo all the way through, so I'm curious.

The demo contains the first four rules and stops once Tendry defeats the first Goblin King.

Hehe, that was the first place I investigated, being the nosey person that I am. :P

Nice game. I wasn't sure about it at first, as TotS is far too trial and error for my liking, but the demo shows that there's far more strategy here, and the way that things react similarly to how they do in DROD seems really natural. I'm going to buy it once school calms down a little, as it's a bit hectic at the moment and I have little time.

Ah, thanks. I'm relieved to know that all of my hard work has at least gotten me past the demo portion of the game. Though just barely since I'm on rule 6 now.
