I have a report that lets me see what people typed into Google or whatever search engine that brought them to DROD. Here are some on the more entertaining or unexpected ones. Note that the number next to each one indicates how many times somebody arrived via that particular search phrase.

20 x "herman hesse metallica" (The two obviously go together.)
20 x "ending high fidelity sonic death monkey" (Twenty people asked for the exact same crazy thing. Or one person asked twenty times.)
17 x "www. teentitans. com" (Spaces added by me to get past forum quirk. Why would you search for "www. teentitans. com" when you are obviously wanting to browse to same URL you just typed.)
15 x "level one user" (Level one user of anything in particular?)
11 x "death" (I picture some gothy dude, listening to the Cure, searching for "death". Perhaps deadly rooms of death?)
10 x "best minesweeper times" (I dunno. How important is it to be the best at minesweeper? It seems there are going to be some fragile egos involved here.)
9 x "quarce" (I like to think people are looking for evidence that they can use this strange word. Well, now you can! DROD has brought it into the mainstream.)
9 x "effect gimp how solve or solving red eyes" (Try solving the evil eyes first, then we'll talk.)
7 x "teentitans car trouble" (What? You're having car trouble and you need help from the Teen Titans?)
6 x "ugly black people" (Well, this can be funny or sad depending on how you look at it, but definitely a strange request that has brought six visitors to our site.)
6 x "avatar uploads" (Some people don't care where they upload their avatar just as long as it goes somewhere.)
5 x "architecture competition" (Maybe someone will be confused and construct a physical Five-Suite Speaking Grounds instead of using the DROD editor.)
4 x "dungeon monsters" ("I want to know about monsters." "Certainly, but what kind." "Dungeon monsters!" )
4 x "rooms" (Another case where the query is impossibly general. After they have learned everything about rooms, maybe they will ask about "doors" and visit DROD.net again.)
3 x "mushroom avatar" (Agaricus, you will be happy to note that precisely three people scoured the web and found your lovely mushroom graphic. And you were worried that people wouldn't appreciate it! ;) )
3 x "good puzzle games" (It is refreshing to find that a person can begin with this general question and arrive at the right location. As Oneiromancer pointed out: Google for "good puzzle games" or "good puzzle game" and DROD.net will come up in the #1 spot. I tried "best puzzle game", and Google replied that I shouldn't be greedy.)
2 x "a banana grower wants to transport his 3000 bananas 1000 miles across the desert to the market. all he can use is his one camel which can carry 1000 bananas at once but it needs to eat one banana to walk one mile regardless of how many bananas it is carrying" (Apparently, one or two people typed this entire phrase into a search engine. I predict they were delivered to our soon-to-be-famous puzzle topic.)
2 x "chris marks architect" (DiMono, people are trying to find you for a construction project.)
2 x "who sang why is everybody always picking on me artist music 50" (I hope that we answered it someplace on the forum.)
2 x "brock lesnar s tattoo" (Why did this bring up DROD.net?)
2 x "legendary sayings" (Maybe they will quote Gunthro Budkin's words of wisdom in their thesis paper.)
2 x "dolly parton calculator joke" (Concerned mother wondering who started this debauchery? It wasn't anybody here!)
1 x "popcap games help" (Yes, everybody come to DROD.net for help with Insaniquarium and other PopCap Games. Heh. PopCap should enjoy that.)
1 x "animated mongol" (Animated mongols are hard to find, and I'm afraid we don't have any either. Sorry to waste your time.)

The anal retentive person in me just has to answer this one. I can think of a few reasons: one would be that the cursor defaulted to the Google Search box or whatever, and they typed the URL there instead of the address bar, and hit Enter without looking up. I know I've done this a few times. The second choice I can think of would be for people seeing who is linking to that website...but I don't know if that really works.

In any case, that list is hilarious, and it's so far the first e-mail from the forum that I intend on saving in my Inbox for posterity.

Game on,

If it were backward links, it *should* show up as "link:www.teentitans.com". What we're getting often happens if, for some reason, the website can't be contacted - some browsers are configured to automatically search google if the name can't be resolved. Or like Onei said, people could accidentally type the URL in the google search box. I've done that as well.

I run statistics on the logs for the animal shelter website I run, and I always get a kick out of looking at the search terms that got people there as well. For a while we had a cat named "Jessica Rabbit". You can imagine how many hits I got from google...

I don't have any way to figure this out. Well, no easy way. I can tell you that most visitors to DROD.net spend less than 30 seconds here. Just long enough to find out that we aren't a legitimate Teen Titans site, I guess.

A lot of the others made sense - I could guess where they'd be located. This one was odd enough I had to investigate. I googled for UBPs (using this term to avoid having google like our site in particular for the longer search term), and went through the first twenty pages - no drod.net. (By the way, google told me there were about 964,000 matches)

What's really disturbing is that 6 people waded through more than twenty pages of google results, probably clicking on every link just to see if there were any UBPs there.

Adding "site:drod.net" to the search line brought up 5 topics on the forum, none of which had to do with what I'd assume the searchers were seeking.

I'm not entirely sure how this statistics are calculated, but I don't think it has to be 6 people - the same person following five different links here could account for 5 of them, no?

Sorry to drag this thread back up, but I just remembered this thread, and looking at it reminded me about just how funny this thread is.

Erik or Matt...

Is it possible for you to update this thread and see what people have searched for recently to get here?

Okay, here's a fresh crop...

365 x "mp3 to mid" - This is the #1 search phrase that brings people to the site. The 2nd and 3rd most popular are "drod" and "deadly rooms of death" with 156 and 138 hits apiece. There are several variants of this phrase, i.e. "from mp3 to mid". If you total them all up, the hitcount for this one is 500+.

24 x "webcomics about cynical girls" - I wonder if mainly cynical girls read webcomics about cynical girls.
23 x "drod.net 2004 current email directory" - I should distribute a print publication--call it the "DROD Pages".
23 x "by-the-ears ear or ears grabbed his ears" - Heh. And they get stories about creatures in caves yanking Beethro's ears, but what were they looking for? Probably some weird porn fetish thing.
20 x "i was in this barbershop" - Some people get confused and think they can use Google to make blog entries.
20 x "chao raising" - Joker5, you will be happy that people are finding and visiting your topic. If you build it, they will come.
5 x "motas spoiler" - Obviously, these people wanted hints, and several other people did type "motas hint". But what if we made a page that only had spoilers for MOTAS, and no actual help on playing the game? Now that would cause some head-scratching.
4 x "when there s trouble you" - I believe this person wanted to know the complete sentence with the words following "when there's trouble you...". Because then he would know exactly what to do when there was trouble.
3 x "microseconds as uints of time" - The "uints" typo sent this person to DROD. "uint" is programmer's shorthand from "unsigned integer".
3 x "hit the penguin gory" - He's not satisfied to just hit the penguin. It's gotta be gory, too. Sicko.
3 x "games similar to mystery of time and space" - Joking aside, this one makes me happy because it brought qualified prospects to DROD.net.
3 x "fatass" - Man, just go hang out at Jack in the Box. You'll see lots of them.
2 x "webb institute sucks" - I think Matt O'Leary (Malarme) only said nice things about the Webb Institute, leaving this grouchy lurker unsatisfied.
2 x "checkpoint sucks" - DROD checkpoints? Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin? Just checkpoints in general?
1 x "the moon in ether but not the sun in formaldehyde" - I think he could just ask for the "moon in ether". Google is unlikely to also turn up "sun in formaldehyde" matches.
1 x "wine cellar architecture" - It's just funny to me that he got sent to "Dinfro's Wine Cellar".
1 x "a place where i can change my room styles" - HehHeh. You can change your room to any of nine different styles. It will cost nothing and take only seconds.

I'm just amazed that 23 people want a DROD email directory. And I'm still not sure why barbershops or cynical girls sends you here.

Erm, perhaps some people think they can farm e-mail addresses for spam purposes if they Google this. Perhaps it's worked with other discussion boards, where somehow the e-mail directory was Google-searchable. That's the only thing I can think of.

Game on,
