I feel like your excuse is one I hear often from people who are intimidated by drinking (I used to be the same way myself). Drinking isn't about abandoning your mental faculties. It certainly
can be, but it is also quite enjoyable in moderation. Enjoyment of alcohol isn't about being sloppy drunk.
Consider it to be a life experience. I think you owe it to yourself to give it a try, even if just to understand the effects alcohol has on your body to give you a better frame of reference. It's an acquired taste, but quite great once you get there.
And I remember how annoying it was to deal people trying to push alcohol on me when I wasn't ready for it. I don't want to be that guy - ignore me freely, if you wish! Experience it at your own pace.
