Thanks!

I appreciate Jesse's positive mention of DROD and the opportunity to be interviewed. Being featured alongside greats like "I Wanna Be the Guy" and "Kingdom of Loathing" is special. :thumbsup

The dedicated members of the DROD forums are constantly trying their own hand at design, submitting all-new puzzles and adventures, named “holds,” available for free download (after purchase of the initial game).

Is it sad that I recognize all the rooms shown in the little pictures?

They're all from JtRH for some reason, especially the one with the goblin king.

I think NiroZ raised a good point worthy of correction.

Hi, there!

I'm the journalist who scrapped this little piece together. I'm new to the field, admittedly, and I apologize if I made an error, but I do try to take some pride in my work, and I'd like for it to be as correct as possible. What did I get wrong here?

I'll be happy to make a correction ASAP!

Usermade holds can be downloaded and played in the demo version too. You don't have to buy the full version.

I believe what NiroZ meant is that you can download holds for free from this site's Holds Board and use them with the (also free) demo, without buying anything at all.

Having the full game and CaravelNet just allows you to download holds directly from within the game, as well as keeping highscores and access to Smitemaster's Selections.

It's not necessary to buy DROD to play the user-made holds -- the demo version plays them just fine. The only limitations of the demo are that it only contains the first few levels of the main hold, The City Beneath itself, and that it only contains one set of graphics instead of the six in the full version.

Thanks for the article, by the way -- it's very good, minor inaccuracies aside.

Aha! That's my fault, then, for assuming otherwise. I bought both JtRH and TCB right away when they came out, and never bothered to see if I could get holds for the demo. I guess I'm just used to locked functionalities in non-registered software.

Still, never let it be said that I can't admit a mistake. The article is now fixed, and I thank you for your help (and for reading!)
