is this the kind of sentence I should feel free to correct on wikipedia? the last few words should obvious read "British sitcom 'The Thin Blue Line'."

Shouldn't that be obvious*ly*? ;)

You're right though... that's a grammatically incorrect reference.

On the one hand, they say on Wikipedia to BE BOLD! On the other, your post makes me doubt that you should be correcting grammar. :P

Speaking of English semantics, if this were indeed an "Obligatory" leaving thread, would deleting it force Banjooie to come back?

Huh. I thought "pear-shaped" was a reference to an A-Bomb. It sorta looks like an upside-down pear.

I personally thought it was a reference to how pears are a wonky shape when compared to apples.

I suspect Banj would enjoy this irrelevant direction the thread has gone, and if it was someone else would probably be leading the charge.

I prefer apples to pears, but only if the apples are Granny Smith apples. Otherwise, I believe that pears are the superior choice.

I have to say, I'm more worried than excited about the bureaucracy. I've been a member of online volunteer leadership teams, and it's always gone badly, because (a) the more people you bring in, the more ego you bring in, and that inevitably leads to clashes; and (b) people burn out, which is bad, but also drift away, which is worse, because when someone burns out it's highly visible and you replace them, but when someone drifts away their job often goes undone for quite a while.

And I'm not 100% sure I see the point of it. Sure, there are things that could be delegated around here, but I haven't noticed a severe case of anything grinding to a halt over it (other than Erik writing the Illumination, and that doesn't look like it's being delegated).

I'm not leaving; I'm going to do my best to ignore the bureaucracy. After all, we're here because of a game that's specifically about a lone person struggling against a large bureaucracy, aren't we? But I'm anxious to see where it all ends up--and I mean "anxious", not "eager".

I firmly believe that the bureaucracy will be at its best when it isn't actually doing real things. The more asinine the position, the better.

Generally, I agree, which makes me all the more sad that Banjooie left; I can think of no one better to fill an asinine position that accomplishes nothing. (Which I say, of course, with the deepest respect.)

I personally would've put something high-falutin' on the base, such as sic transit gloria mundi (or maybe something less profound), but good job.

See, I would have put something snarky on the base, perhaps involving an arcane reference to something.

(So what's with all the greyed-out Banjooie avatar pictures all of a sudden?)

To be honest I think that Banjooie would find all of this a bit disturbing (the greyed out avatars, the grave stone picture, the close to "fan" feeling you get from some of the comments). Hmm... I don't want to sound harsh or anything, but I think this might have gone a bit too far. It's as if Banjooie was some kind of martyr. -_-

I believe it is expected of me to respond to that, since I was the first one to use the Banjooie's avatar.
I was then addressed by Kwakstur by PM. He said that seeing Banjooie's avatar everywhere kept making him believe that he was back, and that bothered him. In reply, I told him that I hoped Banjooie might be more compeled to come back if he saw it, and, in order to keep it but not bother people anymore(Kwakstur was not the only one who didn't like it) I greyed it out. Kwakstur then probably agreed to my reasoning and took up the greyscale avatar himself. That's how it all started and the reason why I selected this avatar. I simply miss the guy. And no, I don't agree to posts like the one by Ed Crash up there. That is exagerated.

I find the use of his avatar, greyed out or not, annoying and distracting. Especially when used by multiple people. While Banjooie may be following the forum as a Guest - I don't know - I doubt he's sitting there waiting for his fan club to become a certain size before making a triumphant return or something. From his post, I'd guess not, because it seems he doesn't want to see the train wreck he predicts.

He'll come back if he wants to. Maybe the tributes to him and songs written about his greatness should be kept here in this thread. Changing avatars to match his simply make the rest of the forum more confusing.
