Let's try something moderately easy this time:

Lancelot's Joyous Gard was not a singularity in an age which has left us "Beaute", "Plaisance", or "Malvoisin" - the bad neighbor to its enemies - an age in which even an oaf like the imaginary Richard Coeur de Lion, who suffered from boils, could call his castle "Gaillard" and speak of it as "my beautiful one-year old daughter".

Not easy enough, evidently... It's from the fourth book of a quadrilogy, which is nowadays released as a single volume.

I think I killed it or something. Um... I'll just pass my turn as I've not read enough books lately to be able to come up with anything that's not extremely easily googlable.

That's easily from Glen Cook's Garrett P.I. series. Probably the first book. That would be "Sweet Silver Blues".

This is probably wrong, but...

"Great news, old mouse!
It's all falling into place. You're registered at the clinic as Torvin L. Pulmix. Arriving on the late train tonight. The Last Resort limo will meet you at the station. You're a linoleum dealer from Couver. It's downstate in the hill country near the border. You've come to lose weight and recover from a nervous condition. You'll need a suitcase and new clothes. So go shopping this afternoon.
I'll call tonight with more details.
Pup"

edit: That was from "Time Stops For No Mouse" by Michael Hoeye. It is part of the Hermux Tantamoq series.

Sorry to drag up old responses, but I believe it was two sequels and two prequels. Then three outside sequels to the prequels. (if that makes any sense).

Hmm, I thought Foundations Edge was a prequel, probably could have researched it a bit more.

And I didn't count the third party additions.

For those of you who didn't know, Robert Jordan died last month. But there is good news, there will still be a book #12. It survived in the form of computer files and recorded oral conversations.

To Kill a Mockingbird. Superb book.

"I've watched through his eyes, I've listened through his ears, and I tell you, he's the one. Or at least, as close as we're going to get." - try this one.

A fine start to an ultimately disappointing series.

Ender's Game, by Orson Scott Card.
