The DVD tray of my PS2 has locked shut, and there seems to be no way of getting it open without destroying something. I don't want that, of course. Anyone experienced this and have any tips on how to best open the thing ?

I've found the blue button often works.



Is there anything inside that could be jamming it (ie. CD)? How did you have it oriented?

According to my sister, all she did was put a DVD in it and close the door (using the fabled blue button). Then she says she heard some strange noises from inside, and now it's stuck. It was in the "lying down"-position when this happened, but I've tried to open it in other positions without success.

I've opened up Sony VCRs, CD players, and MiniDisc players before to remove stuck media. Just needed a Philips head screwdriver, I think. Oh, and don't forget to unplug the unit and ground yourself by touching th chassis before any other sensitive part inside.

However, looking at my PS2 it appears to pretty much be a black box with no obvious way to open it. But I am sure people do in order to install mod chips, so I would search for a website on that.

I should point out that while my VCR and CD player recovered from the isolated incidents, my MiniDisc player had a more serious problem and is now basically permanently broken. So hopefully you have a case of the former and not the latter.

Yeah, this happened to my friend like a year ago... I forget what he did, I think he got his Uncle or someone to fix it. So the moral of the story is its possible to fix if you know how... yeah. :buh

You'll find the screws, just keep looking. Sometimes they're hidden in hard-to-see places, deep inside holes, or behind warranty stickers. Lay out the removed screws in a pattern that will remind you where they go back in. Be very careful when pulling the two halves apart, and if it gets stuck, figure out where it's stuck and unstick it however you can. Since the system is currently nonworking, you have nothing to lose if you break it by taking it apart.

Thank you, everyone! The problem now seems to have disappeared on its own. According to my sister it just suddenly worked. Huh. So, I don't need to open the thing, but I appreciate your help anyway
