I was wondering which ideas did the creators of DROD put into the game.

Well, to be honest, very few game elements made it from Feature Requests to 3.0. Those that did were very old ones, stuff that had been around for a long time (like sister gates and the Flow, which became briars). Several of the game elements were leftovers from JtRH, and all of the major ones were thought up by summer/fall 2005. There are some Feature Requests that are very similar to 3.0 elements but were posted long after we had already made levels with them in TCB.

Game on,

The main influence of the Feature Request board was with user interface requests. Game elements had very little influence. As Neil mentions, almost all the gameplay elements in TCB were more-or-less final a year or so before it came out, and planned long before that - most were already planned before JtRH came out, though not all in their final form. If I'm not mistaken, the only game element that came from a feature request posted after JtRH came out was hot tiles.

I think someone requested the Clone Potions. And wouldn't gel be sort of similar to Sucky? So, did you base gel on it, or did you made it out of scratch?

Yes, Missbritney suggested something similar to it on the sourceforge feature request page back in 2003.

Sucky was one of the earliest examples of someone making a request for a feature that was very similar to something fully implemented in TCB by the time it was made - in fact, the Gel rooms that Adam designed had already existed at the time I joined the TCB team in July 2005, which was 4 months before Sucky was suggested.

Note that it's not too surprising that more than one person came up with that idea, for the simple reason that if you wanted to make a new tar type, and wanted to keep the rule that no two tar types could be cut on the same square, you really didn't have a choice.

Well, if we're going to try and take credit for suggesting features, I suggested the Speed Potion to Erik on rec.games.computer.puzzles back in 1998:

Kind of makes the feature request board sound rather redundant, doesn’t it? :~(

well...

I can't speak for Caravel (and I'm not trying to), but when I read the Feature Request board, I mentally categorize it into two subforums:

Real Feature Requests (such as "could the UI show X piece of information more usefully?" or somesuch)
and
Game Component Ideas (which I don't even read as _requests_).

many posts which fall into the first virtual subforum get implemented or addressed. many posts which fall into the second virtual subforum are, as you say, redundant.
