Lvl 6- Forest of the Dead 2 (0)

OK, I'm stuck. I know I need to get the crate onto the square marked 1, then before the ball pushes it south put the crate through the gate. I'm also pretty sure that once this is done there's no returning so I need to get the other crate home as well before the western ball gets to the orb. Moving that crate early gets the ball stuck. There just doesn't seem to be enough time but I can't see any other way. What am I missing?
