So I was playing around in the editor of 1.6.7 after I made a new tileset. I decided to look in the editor to see what it looked like, and my first impression is 'Wow. Where'd I mess up?'. There were walls on the ground, black floor tiles which I don't even remember adding, etc. I tried it in 1.5 after (no idea why, just curious) and the same thing happened. Here are a few screenshots of my 1.6.7 screen:

Here's the tileset I was using. It was supposed to be an upgrade of Grey World, 'til I saw what it looked like in-game...

You could change the name from Grey World to Screwy I guess.

You sure you didn't accidentally replace GeneralTiles with this or something else to do with that file? Because I don't know how else a serpent tail would end up becoming a floor tile.

I'm guessing you messed up your transparency, and I'm guessing you messed it up but good.

It could also be the result of corrupted *.tim files as well, although I don't know how you'd have managed that.

That's probably the most likely reason.

Okay, I don't think *either* of those are it. It cannot be transparency, it's a bitmap, which, unless I am greatly mistaken, 24-bit color. At any rate, it doesn't have transparency. And AE doesn't use external *.tim files. However, that does seem the most likely explanation. Occam's Razor, I guess. Does it work without that image in the folder?

It's not transparent in the bmp itself, but DROD treats #c0c0c0 (192, 192, 192) as transparent.

That would do it... and also explain why the serpents are there.

DROD assumes that the floor tiles are opaque. So, if you decide to make something transparent, it doesn´t blank out the background-rather, whatever was there before can occur. Some certainly weird things can happen with this. The best solution is to offset all parts of the picture with that color by 1 on each color slider. That way, you get a near-exact color without causing those problems.

This is basically what happened last night. Everything.

First impression opening DROD and messing around with stuff:
'Hey, those walls look pretty good!'
Second impression:
'Where'd the black tiles come from?'
*Turns whole floor into trapdoors*
*tries deleting trapdoors*
*floor turns into checkerboard of trapdoors and regular floor*
*messes around with everything else, adding spiders, serpents, tar, doors, then deleting stuff
Third impression:
Ok. I knew I was bad at doing these AE mods, but I didn't know I could mess it up that much!'
*plays room*
Fourth impression
'AAHHH!'
'Better tell the other DRODers after this'
*walks upstairs*
*opens fridge*
*drinks some orange juice*
Fifth impression
'That orange juice tastes pretty good.'
*walks downstairs*
*posts on forum*
*leaves to New York (which is where I am accessing the forum from right now*

My AE 1.6.7 Status

10/5/06 - Installs 1.6.7 (yay!)

Umm... what? I'm getting the picture that nothing of this is actually relevant. The case has been cleared: Not a bug, but using an illegal color in the floor.

Just in case you're not sure how to do it, I've attached a fixed version of your style here - Keep working on it!

As a matter of fact, AE does use *.tim files. I know my 1.6.7 folder contains them. As for earlier versions, I'm not sure, but it's very possible that they weren't used back then.

No, wait, I'm confusing myself again. It's those modular mod thingies that AE doesn't use, not *.tim.

In other words, out of 16777216 possible colors you chose exactly the one single color that you shouldn't have used... ;)

Incidentally, that's also an illegal floor color in JtRH - it's used to represent transparency in such things as obstacles and trapdoor edges.

Well, considering that the graphics engine is nearly identical...

The same luck that got me the fuzzy lasagna in 5th grade, the same luck that out of all of the Lego boxes at Toys'R'Us New York, got me one that was missing a main piece... :lamo
