The one who owns the campsite is the GM, right? What I mean is, he/she would describe what's happening when you're there. It seems like it from your example in the first post, but I'd like some clarification.

I'm not sure what a GM is, but your discription fits the role of the person who runs the campsite.

Virtual Burning Man will end...

Local Time:10-15-2006 at 01:00 AM

There will be a chaotic event affecting the experience next weekend.
When will the October contest start?
I dunno. In October.
When will you be awarding prizes for SttD?
Mike did it for me today. He was trying to save me a little time.

Virtual burners, listen up!

The desert winds are picking up speed. In the distance, you see a big brown wall of oblivion coming your way. There's gonna be a dust storm tomorrow. "Tomorrow" is defined as sometime soon after:

Local Time:10-08-2006 at 01:00 AM

All of your possessions are at risk of being blown away! Campsite owners need to tie things down and stuff them under heavy objects, but there won't be time to protect everything. In fact, you'll only have time to secure five items in your inventory before the duststorm arrives. After the duststorm clears, you will definitely still have your five secured items, but everything else may be gone. It's hard to say how the powers of the duststorm will ravage your campsite.

Campsite owners can secure their five items, by putting an asterisk "*" next to secured items in their post in the Campsite topic.

Once the duststorm commences, everyone will be stuck at their campsites and prevented from exploring at other campsites. (Just like real Burning Man, by the way. ;) ) I will post here to let you know when the duststorm has begun and ended.

Campsite owners, don't forget to secure your five items!

-Erik

My turn to be nosy... The deadline given in Erik's last post is in less than two hours from now (it was set to the 10/07 at 0001 UTC). I'm not sure that was the intended date, given the "tomorrow" part.

Uhh, most of my stuff IS heavy. Are those neccasary to save? Or will those be safe? For example my giant freezer filled with a couple tons of ice cream. I don't think a dust storm that big can blow it away.

It's a virtual dust storm, man! Programmed to blow anything not secured, no matter how heavy it is!

Anyway, I'll start doing the stuff.

Okay, I fixed the time.

Heavy objects get blown away just as easily as light ones in this particular dust storm. Just take the rules literally, pick 5 items that you definitely want to keep, and consider that the rest of your inventory is likely to disappear.

For example do the individuals who have received gift back packs need to secure them to keep them?
