OK, I give in. I've being toying with this for a while now, and it has yet to dawn on me the best approach for the first and resulting orbs. Any subtle hints?

The order I visited the orbs in was

Make sure you wake as few eyes as possible, especially when crossing the free space in the middle, and don't rotate too much.

There's a certain amount of trial and error. I ultimately experimented with the best path down the middle, which in my case only woke up 7 eyes on right. Also,
