Jax keeps dying in the mud for no apparent reason. No monsters nearby. What am I missing?

Note that the roach in the top left corner is killing the archer while Jax is in the mud.

Is this room the one you need to push the box back and forth? Left and right, to defend the archer? I'm pretty sure.
