The World Cup Football cup starting the 9th of june In Germany, I thought a new game. In each match, you'll have to make bets for
your guesses. Bets will be with rank points, not with money! To make easier the guesses, I put the groups and next of each country.
there's a number, which is the world ranking made by Fifa. A question mark means that I don't know.
For example USA are the 8th best team in the world. If people doesn't like football or can't see the matches, I'll give the scores after each match.

GROUP A
COSTA RICA (21) | ECUADOR( 37) | GERMANY (host) (16)| POLAND(24)

GROUP B
ENGLAND (9) | TRINIDAD & TOBAGO (?) | PARAGUAY (31) | SWEDEN (14)

GROUP C
ARGENTINA (4) | IVORY COAST (41) | NETHERLANDS (3) | SERBIA & M (47)

GROUP D
ANGOLA (60) | IRAN (19) | MEXICO (7) | PORTUGAL (10)

GROUP E
CZECH REP (2) | GHANA (50) | ITALY (12) | USA(8)

GROUP F
AUSTRALIA (49) | BRAZIL (1) | CROATIA (20) | JAPAN (?)

GROUP G
FRANCE (5) | SOUTH KOREA (29) | SWITZERLAND (36) | TOGO (?)

GROUP H
SAUDI ARABIA (32) | SPAIN (6) | TUNISIA (28) | UKRAINE (40)

Here's a link for more details:
http://www.jonathanstewart.co.uk/fa/world-cup-2006.asp

Rules:

1- You can make only 1 guess before each match. If you changed your mind, then edit the post before the match begins.
2- The guesses are done like this: For example for the Match Germany - Costa Rica:
Costa Rica will win : 1 rp (rank points) or
Germany will draw with Costa Rica: 2 rp
3-If your guess is correct, then I and/or those who made wrong guesses will have to mod you up
4-If your guess is incorrect, then please, add 1 mod point to a/each winner, if you can.
5-You can give some informations about countries about how they play or which competitions they won before (on football). But don't debate, or argument.
6- You can participate even if you never heard about Football. Just make your guesses and bets.
7- Don't make multiple posts, it can be quite confusing for me and the others.
8- You can make multiple guesses of different matches in one Post

You can start making guesses for these 3 matches until 11 June:
9 June Germany v Costa Rica
9 June Poland v Ecuador
10 June England v Paraguay
10 June Trinidad & T v Sweden
10 June Argentina v Ivory Coast Hamburg
11 June Serbia & M v Holland

PLEASE IF THERE SOME ERRORS, MISSING, BAD OR WRONG RULES TELL ME HERE OR PM ME.

Where did you get those rankings from? They look like they're from around last November.

GROUP B
ENGLAND (10) | TRINIDAD & TOBAGO (47) | PARAGUAY (33) | SWEDEN (16)

GROUP C
ARGENTINA (9) | IVORY COAST (32) | NETHERLANDS (3) | SERBIA & M (44)

GROUP D
ANGOLA (57) | IRAN (23) | MEXICO (4) | PORTUGAL (7)

GROUP E
CZECH REP (2) | GHANA (48) | ITALY (13) | USA (5)

AUSTRALIA (42) | BRAZIL (1) | CROATIA (23) | JAPAN (18)

Australia is soooooo screwed.

On the up-side, they've got individual talent in their players, but only until recently have they had a coach that can bring it all together, so their ranking is not a good guide to how well they'll play.

But still, screwwwwwwwed. They have to beat both Croatia and Japan (then again, they tied with the Netherlands, so who knows?) to advance.

Yes, they drawed against them. Hmm... the first small supprise of the tournament. Also Ivory Coast played quite well.
They could even have won against Argentinia if they had a little more luck.

Cool game Dali!
I'm not a soccer fan, but I certainly love the world cup, because of the fuss and countries integration.

My bet for june 13:

Brazil will win against Croatia. 2rp

If I understand this game correctly, I can 'bet' on as many matches each day as I like, and I don't lose anything if I'm wrong?

Is there a limit on how many rank points I can bet?

Would it be possible to have a standing 100 rank point bet on the higher seeded team in every match?

The way betting usually works is that
a) if you're wrong, you lose something, and
b) the payout is inversely proportional to the likelihood of the outcome

(a) limits peoples' stakes, and (b) makes the game more interesting. without (a) and (b) isn't the only winning strategy to always bet as much as possible on the favourite?

it is a forum game, not a betting office ;)

so you lose in cause of a wrong bet only the points for modding up the winners. also i don't think it would be practicable to bet lots of points. the rules not including anything about such a restriction but i would draw a border at 3 rp per game.

I decided that Germany will win against Poland 2:0 what makes 2rp? Right?

Ok, the others will not manage to get the round thing in the foursquare thing. How many rp?

Sorry, I'm not fit with the rules here. To be true I'm not very much interestet in football, but everyone is talking about so I have no chance to ignore it.

the way was a little bit different 'til now:

you had to decide your bet. not the concrete result but the winner (or "draw" wen you thnk that no team will win).

about the rank points: like usual you decide how many points you are betting on your offer. the safer you about your bet the higher could be your wager.

Wait, we don't have to risk anything?

Oh, well in that case, I reckon Australia will beat Brazil, 2rp.

(I would have made this bet anyway, because rank points are an illusion designed to distract you all. Just so you don't think I'm being spiteful.)

we risk our rank points. i know: with more than 1000 points it isn't a risk at all. but the most urgent thing in this game is fun imho.

latest result:

Germany won against Poland 1:0 (after hard work, with more luck than poland and one player more after a yellow/red card against poland)

next matches (thursday):

Ecuador - Costa Rica (15:00 MEST)
England - Trinidad & Tobago (18:00 MEST)
Sweden - Paraguay (21:00 MEST)

my bets:
Costa Rica wins against Ecuador
England wins against Trinidad & Tobago
Paraguay will win against Sweden
