Ah. I think the problem for me is that the caption is "
Strive"
. The thing is - mountain climbing is not something you do to achieve a result. The whole point is the effort. Thus, striving actually is the important part, not the end result. So the size of the flag doesn't matter as much as the size of the mountain does. Sure, mountain climbing is sort of pointless from a purely goal-driven point of view, but it seems to me that this is a poster which Danforth (who is an "
end-justifies-the-means"
guy) would find weird but I find normal, as opposed to vice-versa.
If the caption was "
Make a difference"
or something like that, I wouldn't have this problem, but "
strive"
just seems like the proper caption here, not a subtle joke.
