larry's hint helped me to solve the first problem. i'm now working on the next one: how to go to the southern orb without the roaches walk north...

and: yeap! the beta was very differet from the final hold!

if you do it right with the northern orb the roaches cant walk north anymore.... :-)

It took a while, but I finally figured out that you have to get close enough to the tar mother that the tar in the upper left grows one square and blocks the roach queens from going any further north.
